Grand Opening of Taproom
Jasper’s first meadery, Waldmet Cellars, will host a grand opening celebration on August 29, 2020 from 1-8 p.m. for its brand-new taproom.
Mead is one of the most historic fermented drinks that has the creativity of craft beer and the elegance of wine, but is in a category all its own. It is created by fermenting honey, with additional herbs, spices, and fruits added to create unique flavors.
Waldmet Cellars will be bringing a rather unique selection of craft meads and more to Jasper. Owner Mike Lorey helped start the award-winning mead program at Montaluce Winery in Dahlonega. The first batch of 2010 Wildflower Mead received a double gold medal at the International Eastern Wine Competition, one of the oldest and longest-running wine competitions in the nation.
A wide selection of meads and other products will be available at the new taproom. For the grand opening celebration, there will be 6+ meads on draft and a few more in bottles. From classic honey to fruit and herb-infused varieties. Other varieties will be announced soon when they are available for purchase.
"After many years of toiling away, we're incredibly excited to finally celebrate our opening with old supporters and new friends," Owner Mike Lorey said in the release. “Waldmet Cellars joins a growing number of meaderies in Georgia and elsewhere, but we are the only one in Jasper or the surrounding counties. We hope to become a destination for those who love mead, or those that will love it after they stop by for a tasting.”
